Calvin Bassey was lauded by former Manchester United player Owen Hargreaves for his outstanding performance in Rangers’ UEFA Europa League final defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Bassey was undoubtedly Rangers’ finest player on the night, playing in his first big European final.
The Nigerian international, who played in central defense, put in a strong performance.
Rangers were defeated 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes of energy-sapping play.
Joe Aribo, a member of Bassey’s international team, put Rangers ahead after 56 minutes, shooting the ball past Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.
Rafael Borre, a Colombian forward, equalized for Frankfurt in the 69th minute.
“Calvin Bassey, what a performance,” Hargreaves said on BT Sport.
“The energy and effort were incredible.” Everything about his game was superb.
“Anyone watching that will think to themselves, ‘That’s the type of player I want on my team.'”
