Kenya and Zimbabwe eliminated from 2023 AFCON qualifiers.

After failing to comply with FIFA fines, Kenya and Zimbabwe have been disqualified from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification process.

FIFA suspended the two countries’ football organizations in February for “undue engagement by a third party,” and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) suspended them for “political meddling.”

CAF included Kenya and Zimbabwe in the 2023 AFCON draw on the condition that they successfully challenge their FIFA suspension.

Despite qualifying for the event beginning next month, CAF maintains that the two countries “have not yet achieved the standards required by the FIFA Congress as a precursor for the removal of their ban.”

Only the top two teams from each group will advance to the tournament.

Burundi, Cameroon, and Namibia were placed to Group C, which included Kenya. In Group K, Zimbabwe was placed alongside Liberia, Morocco, and South Africa.

Ivory Coast will host the AFCON in 2023.
