Super Eagles step up their preparations for Ecuador, Sierra Leone, and Mauritius.

Three-time African champions Nigeria have stepped up preparations for their friendly encounter against Ecuador on Thursday evening, as well as their AFCON 2023 qualifying matches against Sierra Leone and Mauritius next month, following their arrival in New Jersey from Dallas on Sunday.

The Eagles showed great passion and created a lot of chances in the second half after settling down to the prestige friendly following long-haul travels into the United States from across the world.

“We were disappointed to lose to Mexico because everyone put in a lot of effort.” We were all hampered by the long flight and lack of time to adjust to the new zone in the first half, but we generated a slew of chances in the second half and were unlucky to lose. However, we’ve learned a lot from the game, and we’ll be able to use them in future matches,” captain William Ekong said this in New Jersey on Monday evening. Ekong praised the four home-based experts who were handed opportunities in the second half, praising their work ethic and confidence against the El Tri.

“Everyone has been fantastic here, with a positive attitude and want to learn. However, I must single out my team mates from the Nigeria Professional Football League for their composure, speed, and strength, as well as their devotion; their attitude and performance have undoubtedly improved the NPFL’s profile.” In the second half, defender Sani Faisal, midfielder Chiamaka Madu, and attackers Victor Mbaoma and Ishaq Rafiu entered the fray.

The Eagles filed out for a complete training session at the Montclair State University pitch on Monday, free of procession and environmental concerns (long-haul journeys and time zone body reaction), with most of the players displaying their regular excitement, energy, and sharpness.

Coach José Peseiro and his assistants monitored Monday’s practice, which focused on close control, space management, and defensive discipline.

Only defender Olaoluwa Aina, who took a knock during the team’s first training session in Dallas, and midfielder Innocent Bonke, who had a knock in Saturday’s game against the Mexicans, skipped the rigorous practice to conduct some light recovery training.

On Thursday evening, at 8 p.m. ET, the Eagles will face Ecuador at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison (1am on 3rd June in Nigeria).

Peseiro, on the other hand, believes his team isn’t losing sight of the AFCON 2023 qualifying games, which begin on Thursday, June 9th, with the Eagles facing the Leone Stars at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja before heading to Saint Pierre to face Mauritius on Monday, June 13th.
