Manchester United captain Harry Maguire believes his club will improve dramatically under new manager Erik ten Hag.

Maguire had a horrible season in which Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was ousted and Ralf Rangnick was unable to stop United from suffering their worst season in Premier League history. Former Ajax manager ten Hag has taken over at Old Trafford, and Maguire feels they are ready to make amends for last season’s mistakes.

“For a new manager to come in, I’m sure the first day of pre-season everybody will be buzzing around, doing their best to impress and everyone will be getting back in condition because we have a big season ahead of us for sure,” Maguire added.

“We know we’re going to get better. We need to improve and do better because last season was far from satisfactory. The new manager will bring a lot of positive energy to the team, and the guys will embrace it.

“As players, as individuals, as a team, the confidence of the team, and the faith in the group, and the faith to go out and receive results after results because that’s what the club needs, you could see towards the end of the season, the self belief wasn’t there, and the faith to go out and get results after results because that’s what the club needs.” That’s exactly what it anticipated.

“In essence, we weren’t going to do that.” When you don’t win matches, your team’s confidence and belief suffers. It’s all over now. We have a new boss, who we are very excited to work with, and we are looking forward to a successful start.”

Maguire is baffled as to why things went so drastically wrong at Old Trafford, where they finished sixth and club great Solskjaer was fired.

Maguire is confused as to why things went so badly wrong at Old Trafford, where the Red Devils finished sixth and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was removed.

“There’s no doubt it’s been a challenging season,” Maguire added. “From the goals we had at the start of the season to where we were at the end of the season, it’s been incredibly frustrating.” As captain of the squad during the season, that was never fair enough for me.”

“You could see it wasn’t good enough in the last few games of the season, and the results, in particular, seemed to confirm that the efforts weren’t there.”

“Yes, it was really a disappointing season for me personally as well as for the team as a whole.”
