Bassey Signs a Five-Year Contract with Ajax. Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey has joined Eredivisie champions Ajax Amsterdam from Rangers.
With the former European champions, Bassey signed a five-year contract.
To hire the adaptable defender, Ajax spent €23 million, including variables, which could rise to €26.5 million.
The Argentine international Lisandro Martinez, who recently joined Manchester United, is directly replaced by the 22-year-old.
Bassey paid €230,000 to transfer from Leicester City to Rangers two years ago.
The defender was essential to the Gers’ run to the UEFA Europa League final, which they lost to Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties.
A few days back, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team won the Scottish Cup.
Bassey has already begun training in Austria for the upcoming season with his new teammates.
