After defeating UNILORIN Warriors 1-0 in a thrilling semifinal game played in Minna, the KSU Steelers from Kogi State University have advanced to this year’s Higher Institutions Football League (HiFL) finals. In the championship game, the Steelers will take on the Federal University, Oye Ekiti Dazzlers.

In the semi-final game, both the Steelers and the Warriors battled valiantly to penetrate each other’s defense, but to no avail. That is, until Benjamin Jude took advantage of a loose ball in the 79th minute to drive home a potent shot that sent the Warrior goalkeeper sprawling.

After the DELSU Titans were eliminated due to technical issues, FUOYE Dazzlers were eligible to play in the championship game. The Dazzlers narrowly avoided defeat during their quarterfinal matchup with the LASU Blazers after the latter rallied from a goal down to tie the score at 2-2 with just seconds remaining. Goalkeeper Lawani Clinton of the Dazzlers, who was also named the Stanbic IBTC Player of the Match, turned away two penalties to help his team win 4-2.
Goodness Onyejiaku, the Chief Operating Officer of Pace Sports, commented on the games and said that the league’s organizers are dedicated to making sure this season’s games deliver more than just a football match.
“HiFL 2022 has fulfilled its promise to bring together collegiate sports enthusiasts across the nation. The feedback has been positive, and we have seen some fantastic games at various participating schools’ centers. We now have our teams for the Super Four, which will be played in Lagos, and we’re all eager to name the winner, according to Onyejiaku.
This year’s Super Four will feature the KSU Steelers, FUOYE Dazzlers, UNILORIN Warriors, and UNN Lions. The winner of the Steelers-Dazzlers match will be crowned the new champion, with the Warriors and Lions competing for third place.
