Lawal, a prospective U-23 Eagle, is aiming for an Egyptian club.

To demonstrate his growing importance in the land of the Pharaohs, Nigerian forward Olamilekan Lawal scored one of the goals for Egyptian team Al Mostaqbal Sport Club in their 3-2 away loss to Porto Suez on Friday at the Egyptian Army Stadium.

Lawal, who was formerly signed to Olympic FC of Alexandria, where he established himself, is now a cornerstone of the modest second division. He scored the second goal with a strong header to ensure a frantic finish to the thrilling match against Porto Suez, who moved up to eleventh place as a result.

The former Giant Brillas of Enugu striker is hoping that his goal-scoring prowess would catch the eye of U-23 Eagles coach Salisu, as the squad has already advanced to the next round of the AFCON qualifying competition after defeating Tanzania 3-1 on aggregate.

“I want to do everything in my ability to be invited to the team,” he added. “My desire is to be part of the team that will clinch Nigeria’s ticket for the Paris 2024 Olympics Football Tournament.”

Lawal is motivated to contribute to his new squad after carrying his impressive preseason form of five goals and three assists for Al Mostaqbal into the current season.
