According to L’Équipe, AS Monaco have identified Club Bruges centre-back Abakar Sylla (20) as a possible replacement for Benoît Badiashile (21).

Badiashile left the Principality club earlier in the transfer window for little around €40 million to join Premier League side Chelsea. Since then, the France international has made his first appearance for the club, starting last weekend against Crystal Palace at home.

Monaco is now looking for a new center-back following his departure. Malang Sarr, a Chelsea loanee, is now in the club’s ranks, but he has yet to impress when called upon this season. Guillermo Maripán has impressed in Badiashile’s absence, albeit he is a right footer and so not necessarily a natural match if Monaco opt to go to a back three.

According to L’Équipe, Monaco’s quest has brought them to Sylla. The left-footed Ivorian international presently plays for Club Bruges in Belgium, the old club of current Monaco manager Philippe Clement. When Clement was at the club, Sylla was not in the first team.

No price has been mentioned, but given that Sylla is young, left-footed, has a contract until 2026, and has international experience at the age of 20, he is unlikely to be cheap.
