Ademola Lookman’s play in the 3-3 tie at Juventus has been praised as remarkable by Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
After scoring a brace and contributing an assist in the thrilling six-goal game, Lookman maintained his outstanding run in front of goal.
The Super Eagles player is currently second in the top scorers table after Victor Osimhen with 11 goals in his first season in Serie A.
In his post-match analysis, Gasperini lauded his players for their valiant performance.
“Lookman gave a remarkable performance. In the first half, we gave up two goals by losing the ball very easily, and those are instances where we ought to have been more cautious, according to Gasperini, according to DAZN.
“We’ve always had spirit and quality, even in games with results like tonight. I noticed a noticeable improvement from the start of the season, thanks in part to the freshness and individuality of these newcomers. If you only travel to Turin to defend, you will almost certainly lose on a penalty or free kick. “I always think that in these games, you have to score goals or you don’t get a result.”
When asked if the trio of Boga, Lookman, and Rasmus Hojlund can be likened to the famed Atalanta attacking three of Duvan Zapata, Papu Gomez, and Josip Ilicic, the coach said yes.
“The traits are entirely different, especially considering that Duvan Zapata is very physically active and Hojlund is only 19; he will develop. Boga and Lookman like pace, whilst Papu and Ilicic have exceptional skill. I don’t care if we score as many goals!
In response to the question of whether Atalanta is a top-four candidate, the team stated: “In the years we qualified for the Champions League, we didn’t know at the start what our aim was, we just earned it along the way by seeing how competitive we were. This year, it’s the same. Of course, we’re at a good place right now, but there’s still a long way to go. Despite the fact that this is a very odd campaign and we are unsure of what will happen, nobody is holding back if we do.
Because there is little credibility when tables are altered in the middle of a season, I prefer it to be done at the beginning or the end.
