The head coach of the Black Queens of Ghana, Kim Lars Bjorkegen, has predicted that Nigeria’s Super Falcons will defeat the hosts, Morocco, in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final on Saturday.
In addition to aiming for a record-tying 10th WAFCON championship, the Super Falcons also intend to exact revenge for their 2022 semifinal defeat to Morocco.
After losing to South Africa 2-1 in the final three years prior, the Moroccans would be aiming to improve.
Morocco required a penalty kick to defeat Ghana after 90 minutes, and extra time ended 1-1, while the Super Falcons defeated champions South Africa 2-1 to get to the final.
Bjorkegen gave an explanation of why he believes the Super Falcons will defeat the hosts following Ghana’s 2-1 victory over South Africa in Saturday’s third-place game.
He stated, “I think it’s going to be an interesting game; both teams are a little different, but I think Nigeria has more quality and potential.”
“In my view, Nigeria has a large number of talented athletes that could play for their second team and still win the event.”
However, Morocco is also incredibly organised, so if Nigeria doesn’t show up, Morocco will win. However, I have a gut sense that the Super Falcons will win, so I bet $1 on them.
Super Falcons Aim for Third Victory Against Hosts in WAFCON Final
In the WAFCON final, the Super Falcons have never suffered a defeat at the hands of the host country.
The Nigerian women’s team defeated South Africa 2-0 in the 2000 WAFCON final, marking their first meeting with a host country.
The Super Falcons then defeated the Indomitable Lionesses 1-0 at the Cameroonian-hosted 2016 tournament thanks to a late goal from Desire Oparanozie.
