According to reports, Crystal Palace has made a transfer proposal for Manuel Akanji, a defender for Manchester City.
During the early months of the 2025–26 season, the 30-year-old seemed to have been marginalised within the Man City team.
Before being excluded from the squad entirely for Saturday’s loss to Tottenham Hotspur, Akanji was an unutilised substitute in the team’s victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on the first day.
In the end, the defender’s future at Man City has been questioned, and it is thought that Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray is one of his possible suitors.
Even though Akanji is eager to remain at the Etihad Stadium past the end of the transfer window, he might need to think about moving if he wants to see consistent playing time this season.
Palace submits Akanji bid
The Sun claims that Crystal Palace is prepared to provide Akanji a means of leaving Man City prior to the market’s closure on September 1.
“The Eagles have already made a ‘ambitious’ attempt to entice Akanji away from Pep Guardiola’s team,” the article alleges.
A player who is nearing the end of his Man City contract has reportedly received a £15 million offer from Palace.
The Eagles, who only added goalkeeper Walter Benitez and left-back Borna Sosa to their roster this summer, are hoping to close off the transfer window strongly.
Is it possible for Akanji to substitute Guehi?
It’s possible that Palace would consider Akanji as a potential replacement for captain Marc Guehi.
After Eberechi Eze just moved to Arsenal for £67.5 million, the Eagles will be reluctant to lose another important part of Oliver Glasner’s team.
But they will also know that when Guehi’s contract expires next summer, they run the chance of losing him on a free transfer.
The England international has been linked to a number of teams, including Liverpool, although they have not yet agreed to a trade with Palace.
