2022 World Cup: Forget the UEFA Nations League –Kane

Despite the Three Lions’ underwhelming showing in the UEFA Nations League, Harry Kane, the captain of England, is confident they will be prepared for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Remember that last night, despite coming back from a 2-0 deficit to tie 3-3 with Germany, England was demoted to the second round of the competition.

The Tottenham striker claimed, in an interview with Channel 4, that the team’s success in the UEFA Nations League should not be used to determine their standing.

We all came out here with something to prove, Kane told Channel 4, because “the boys have been under pressure with recent results.”

We still have lessons to learn from the mistakes we made, but we scored three goals, and I think that will help us have a good attitude going into the World Cup.

“When the tournament begins, we’ll need to be prepared. Football played in major tournaments is distinct from any other football you play for England.

“The pressure is high, the concentration level is high, and I think we handle that well.”

We’ll take our clubs with us, and hopefully everyone returns in November in good shape and strength.

Criticism

Kane came under fire in 2020 for what was perceived to be a tactic in which he would back into defenders leaping for headers, potentially inflicting serious injuries as the players fell backwards onto the field. Martin Keown, a former Arsenal player, criticized Kane after he did so to Adam Lallana of Brighton & Hove Albion and earned a penalty. Keown said, “He looks at his opponent, knows what he is going to do and makes a back for him. Harry Kane is playing dangerously, and I don’t even think a penalty should be called because of that. The defender for Crystal Palace, Gary Cahill, however, defended this strategy by saying, “I think that’s just part of football. Knowing when to potentially draw a foul is something that, in my opinion, requires intelligence and experience”.
