The Super Eagles’ fate in the first round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (2023 AFCON) may be determined by their matchup with Equatorial Guinea, according to former Nigerian international Peter Rufai.
Remember that Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria are the other members of Group A.
On June 14, at the Stade Olympique Alassane Quattara in Abidjan, the Super Eagles will, however, kick off their campaign against Equatorial Guinea.
“I am confident that the Super Eagles will advance to the 2023 AFCON’s following stage. But the team needs to make sure they beat Equatorial Guinea in the first game of the campaign to start winning.
“It is really important because it will boost the players‘ confidence before they play Ivory Coast in the following game.
“We have to work extremely hard to win that game, even though Equatorial Guinea is not an easy team.”
