According to Sébastien Denis, should their pursuit of Leicester City’s James Maddison (25), fail, Newcastle United will turn to Lyon’s Lucas Paquetá (24).
According to Denis, although Maddison is still Newcastle’s top priority, the team is still interested in Brazilian midfielder Paquetá and would be willing to pay up to €50 million to entice him to St James’ Park.
This summer, Paquetá is said to have drawn interest from Arsenal, a rival in the Premier League, but no offer has yet been made.

Brazilian is willing to move. Bruno Guimares (24), a former teammate and close friend who has flourished since joining the Premier League in January, would be waiting for him when he arrived at Newcastle. Although he still has three years left on his current contract with Les Gones, Paquetá has no plans to extend it.
Paquetá is also still miffed about Lyon’s poor performance from last season, when they finished no higher than eighth and were thus excluded from all levels of European competition this year.
