Joel Obi, a former Nigerian international, has signed a two-year deal with Serie B team Reggina after leaving Salernitana.

On Wednesday, Reggina, which is currently represented by former Italy and AC Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi, posted on their website that Obi had signed with them.

“Reggina 1914 announces that an agreement has been reached regarding the football player Joel Obi’s right to participate in sporting events.

“The 1991-born midfielder signs a two-year contract and relocates to the Strait’s shores.

“Welcome to the Amaranth family, Joel.”

Obi replaced Philippe Coutinho in the 66th minute of Inter Milan’s match against Cagliari on October 17, 2010, to make his Serie A debut. Samuel Eto’o scored the game’s lone goal to make it 1-0.

He accepted a one-year contract with the option of an extension when he joined Salernitana in July 2021 on a free transfer.

On February 9, 2011, in a friendly match against Sierra Leone in Lagos, Obi made his international debut for Nigeria.

Prior to getting hurt toward the end of 2012, he started the Eagles’ following 11 straight contests.

Despite being named to the Eagles roster, he did not play in any of the team’s group games at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
