Manchester United is close to finalizing a deal to sign FC Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
De Jong is thought to be dissatisfied with his time at Camp Nou and is looking for a fresh challenge, with the club ready to sell him in order to bankroll some of their summer goals.
According to journalist Gerard Romero, the United transaction is 95 percent complete, with only a few technicalities to be finalized before the move becomes public. According to the writer, the player’s cost will likely be between €70 and €80 million.
If the transfer goes through, De Jong will be reunited with Erik ten Hag, his former Ajax manager, who will join United in the summer. Ten Hag is thought to have pushed United officials to acquire De Jong.
Under four different managers, the Dutchman has made 138 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 13 goals and assisting 17 times.
