Johnson believes Gallagher should be allowed to quit Chelsea.

Chelsea has been advised by former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson to permit Conor Gallagher to leave the team during the January transfer window.

Remember that Gallagher spent the previous season on loan at Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace in the Premier League, where he scored eight goals over the course of 34 games and earned the title of Player of the Year for 2021–22.

However, the Blues made the decision to keep him at Stamford Bridge, and Gallagher was only allowed to play 158 minutes in the Premier League during Chelsea’s first six games.

Johnson did, however, claim that he would have grown more if he had been permitted to stay at Palace in an interview with SafeBettingSites.

However, Johnson told SafeBettingSites that Gallagher would have benefited greatly from spending another season on loan. “I don’t think in terms of leaving the club,” Johnson said.

“I personally would have preferred for him to continue developing; he was obviously having fun.

“I’d prefer Chelsea to have allowed him to go back out on loan and then reassess the situation at the end of the season.”

Style of play

According to Gallagher, his “best position is as a box-to-box midfielder […] Lee Bowyer, his manager at Charlton at the time, referred to him as “an all-round midfielder” because “I can play deeper and I can play attacking as well. He can see a pass and has an insane work rate. Patrick Vieira has compared Gallagher’s playing style to that of former players Ray Parlour and Frank Lampard, who was Gallagher’s childhood hero.

Personal and early life

The youngest of the four sons of Lee and Samantha Gallagher, Gallagher was born in Epsom, Surrey. He attended Howard of Effingham School while growing up in Great Bookham. Jake, Josh, and Dan, his older brothers, are non-league football players. Gallagher’s family is a Chelsea supporter, and he lived ten minutes away from the team’s practice facility in Stoke d’Abernon.
