Despite criticism from outside the club that the Blaugrana are gambling in the transfer market, Barcelona president Joan Laporta stands by the decisions the Blaugrana made this summer.

Despite their precarious financial circumstances, the Catalans were active in the summer transfer window. The president, however, does not believe that they have made any poor choices.

Laporta visited The New York Times’ headquarters in Manhattan while visiting the country to talk about the team’s present problems and the summer transfer window, which has seen Barcelona spend heavily following one of their worst seasons in recent memory.

Laporta said to The New York Times that she “did not want to make the decision” to sell 25% of Barca Studios.

It was a necessity. Although I don’t gamble, I do take calculated risks.

The potential return of Lionel Messi to Barcelona

Laporta also addressed the idea of Lionel Messi, the team’s all-time greatest player, returning, saying that it is still a possibility.

Laporta added, “I feel that I have a moral obligation to him as President to offer him the best finale to his career.”

Barcelona’s financial difficulties are well known, and they have had an impact on their on-field performance, even dropping into the Europa League last season.

Future in Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong

Frenkie de Jong has been the focus of a great deal of speculation this summer due to Barcelona’s pressure on him to accept a wage reduction or a move, with teams like Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Manchester United showing interest.

The president informed the player that he was not for sale but also stated that De Jong needed to “assist the club” by rearranging his compensation.

Laporta said, “He has a contract, and we will fulfill it.
