Tony Cascarino, a former player for Chelsea, warned Harry Maguire, a defender for Manchester United, that facing Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain during the World Cup would be challenging.

Since the Manchester United star lacks the speed to compete with Mbappe and other quick players, Cascarino wants him completely removed from the England team.

Fans and analysts alike questioned why manager Gareth Southgate started Maguire, 29, while leaving players like Fikayo Tomori on the bench during England’s Nations League loss to Italy on Friday.

The summer transfer of Lisandro Martinez from Ajax has cost the Manchester United captain his position in the Red Devils’ starting lineup.

Since starting Manchester United’s opening two games—losses to Brentford and Brighton—Maguire has been on the bench.

And Cascarino doubts the former Leicester City player’s defense against some of the best players in the world like Mbappe.

According to him, Harry Maguire is in serious trouble if Kylian Mbappe even approaches a one-on-one situation while playing on the left side of a three, where Mbappe usually lines up.

“A lot of quick players are on the very best teams in international football, and that would really bother me,” said the player.

Since selecting to play Martinez and Raphael Varane in his central defense, Erik ten Hag has won four straight Premier League games, including victories over Liverpool and Arsenal.
